I Dream in RGB

Australia-based Interdisciplinary artist I dream in RGB , aka Andrea Draper (she/her), explores layered imagery via video and still collage, often fusing her own artwork with found media. The artist enjoys displaying their moving images in darkened spaces. Thus, when illuminated, the viewer’s relationship with the environment often results in an unexpected vibrant disruption of surroundings.

Andrea embraces a weaving of self-created elements, including digital drawing, patterning, and typography, merging visual art with graphic design. The layering of personalised and existing elements strengthens her bespoke approach, revealing a distinct recontextualisation of the found art’s original meaning.

I Dream In RGB investigates themes of cultural identity, including her Burmese ethnicity, a childhood in London’s East End and a later upbringing in Melbourne’s suburbia. Her background recurrently inspires remixes of pop culture with modern interpretations of lived experiences, alongside dialogues of diaspora.

The artist is also an enthusiastic educator and teaches the symbiotic disciplines of visual art and graphic design at a number of institutes in Melbourne, Australia.

Projection Art

I dream in RGB experiments with artistic projections on a variety of external structures. The artist enjoys playing with distortions on building shapes and the interruption of surface textures. The unexpected surprises that emerge through the collision of art and the built environment is welcome.
